Day 6

Today was an interesting day, we did a lot of data logging on the Boton De Oro. We ended up marking 20 Botons De Oro with flags in 2 different sections in a cattle area. From the 20 flagged Botons De Oro, Juan's group dug up 5 of the Botons De Oro, and we measured them without the roots and took the weight of each one. I also had a long lecture day with Edmundo, who initially gave us a tour of Batipa, and he gave me more information on how they help with the supplementation of silage during the dry season. This made my head hurt, considering he used a lot of terminology that is focused on other degrees, but I pushed through!

Day 7

Today, we focused on collecting more sample data in the cassava area in Batipa. We used the Pancho and selected 10 boton de oro plants to isolate the plant for getting length x width in pixels for the plant. We did all these measurements in the morning and finished them in the afternoon. I also created a program to calculate the length x width that isolates the plants from the image. After getting some results, we created a presentation and presented around 7 PM. It went really well, but I was kind of nervous presenting, but got kind of used to it as we went. I also bought a lot of souvenirs to take home to family and friends.

Day 4

Today was an interesting day ended up walking around and shopped in David Panamá and bought some snacks and water. After getting snacks we ended up heading to the entrance of the forest of Batipa where we all took pictures. We then went into the forest were we all got sorted out with our luggage and had an amazing lunch and dinner with the two Gloria’s we met that are our chefs for the rest of the week! After finishing the day I ended up taking a one minute shower which was cold at first but ended up becoming nice and refreshing with the humidity. Now as the ends I am going to sleep in my nice comfy bed with a net taking care of me from the big bugs we have in the forest.

Day 8

 Today I we took a detour on a boat to 2 different beaches we ended up going to one beach that had rough waves. The other beach was nice and beautiful we had a lot of great moments with everyone swimming and racing. We also ended up eating a lot of fruit and had a very tasty lunch that was rejuvenating after all the swimming. After finishing we had a rough trip back entering a storm where there were rough waves hitting us and a bunch of rain was slamming on us. Luckily we made it back to our area safe.
